Furiant Quartet
String Quartet
About
The Furiant String Quartet was founded in 2011. They have studied in Austria with Elisabeth Fister, and in October 2013, were accepted to the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler“ Berlin (Eberhard Feltz, Tim Vogler).
The quartet has had many opportunities to perform in South Africa (Stellenbosch Festival), Spain, Slovenia (Festivals LENT, IMAGO, URSUS), Austria (live performances for the ORF, St. Paul Kultursommer, Wörthersee Classics), Holland (Stift Festival), Italy (Cividale Music Festival), Germany (Gezeiten Konzerte, Bodensee Festival), France (Aix-en-Provence), Romania (Zilele Musicii Oravita) and Lithuania (ECMA).
Their musical impulses have been enriched trough lessons and cooperation with some of the greatest musicians of our time, such as Gerhard Schulz, Jürgen Kussmaul, Daniel Rowland, Rainer Schmidt, Heime Müller, Johannes Meissl, Kuss Quartet, Belcea Quartet and Cuarteto Casals.
In May 2012 they were awarded second prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Majano (Italy) and became scolarship holders under Lord Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Klagenfurt e.V. They have been regular participants of chamber music masterclasses given at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler“ Berlin, ISA Frenswegen, ICMC Weikersheim, and have also participated in ChamberStudio at King’s Place, held in London in 2013. In 2015 they won first and public prize at the Hannoverische Börse der Musiktalente. Out of inspiration for musical ideas, they have created their own concert series in Berlin (Kammermusik im Konvikt) where they perform monthly and present a big variety of different repertoire as soloists or members of chamber music groups. In 2016 they were prize-winners of the ISW-Stiftung in Berlin.
It is also worth mentioning the quartet’s strong bond to contemporary music. In honour of the composer Helmut Lachenmann and in the honour of his 80th birthday, they have recorded his 1st string quartet Gran Torso for the NDR in Hannover. With the very same piece they also won the Boris-Pergamenschikow-Competition in Berlin in 2016. Their constant contact with the composer for future engagements and cooperations remains until this day.
Since 2014 they have been under patronage of the Verein Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Berlin e.V.
