Joseph Ehrenpreis
Brahms Guitar
About
Joseph Ehrenpreis is a performer on the 8-string “Brahms Guitar”, an instrument that was invented by David Rubio and Paul Galbraith in 1994. He is gaining a national reputation for creating a repertoire for the 8-string “Brahms Guitar”. He has accomplished this through his own transcriptions of works originally written for cello, harp, piano, and violin.
Joseph is an advocate for new music, and has commissioned and performed the only original compositions written for the 8-string “Brahms Guitar”. He is also actively involved in the performance of chamber music. In 2016, Joseph was selected as the first guitar participant in New Music on the Point in Lake Dunmore, Vermont where he premiered five new pieces alongside members of JACK quartet.
Joseph’s calendar in 2016-2017 includes a premier of a new piece by Chatori Shimizu for 8-string Brahms Guitar and electronics. The piece was commissioned by Exhibitronic and will be performed in Paris in February 2017
Joseph is a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy and is a full scholarship student at the Lamont School of Music, where he studies with Dr. Jonathan Leathwood.
It is Joseph’s hope that music and sound will help to promote peace and solidarity in the world.
