Cathedral of Trees
Classical Guitar
About
Cathedral of Trees performs original arrangements of progressive music for solo guitar, often combining classical, popular, and world music influences. Walking through a dark forest with only glimpses of light shooting through the canopy is his guide to repertoire. Minor modes, twists and turns, the music branches out around you. The path follows his muse Egberto Gismonti who found inspiration in the Amazon rainforest, fusing elements of rock with jazz and Brazilian folk music to express the beauty and complexity of the natural world. Not afraid to keep things simple in order to be deeply felt, here the jungle can be a metaphor for divergent sources entwining to create a beautiful whole. Featuring programs that juxtapose Gismonti with the Beatles and other popular composers who blur the boundaries between musical styles, Cathedral of Trees explores the natural rhythms and mystical sounds of Brazil and beyond through the voices of the nylon strings.
