About
Hi! I'm a guitarist specializing in French and Spanish modernist music of the early twentieth century. I completed a DMA at the Eastman School of Music, where I'm currently an ABD PhD candidate in the musicology department researching the composer Manuel de Falla and his socio-political milieu. My research interests guide my programming, which also include modernism in Latin America, experimental music in NYC of the 1960s through the 1980s, and contemporary works on ecological themes.
I grew up on Long Island and also hold a Masters degree from the Manhattan School of Music, so NYC is close to my heart! As an homage, some of my programming is directly inspired by the history of Latin American ex-pat guitarists in NYC, from their concert programming to their own compositions.
I primarily perform on the classical guitar, but I love to play electric when the opportunity present itself!
Music
A typical program includes French and Spanish modernist works, a few well-worn classics, and a brand new work or two. At the moment, I am programing music by Manuel de Falla, Rosa García Ascot, Darius Milhaud, Germaine Tailleferre, Maria Luisa Anido, and a new composition by the Icelandic composer, Gulli Björnsson. As many of these works are on the shorter side, I'll add a few well-known works for the guitar by Issac Albéniz, Enrique Granados, Fernando Sor, Francisco Tárrega, or Heitor Villa-Lobos.
