About

Recently noted for his "flexible and expressive voice" tenor Michael Merullo is a Boston based performer and educator involved in both the musical theatre and opera communities. His 2015-16 season will include concerts and chamber recitals with the Cantata Singers, a concert series featuring musical theatre scenes and duets in retirement communities, and touring with the Boston Pops in their Holiday Pops concerts. Michael also looks forward to joining Boston Opera Collaborative as an artist featured in their "Opera Bites" program of 10-minute operas.

Michael enjoys working with many local companies including Boston Lyric Opera, Lowell House Opera, Concord Players, and OperaHub among others. Recent highlights include Basilio, Le nozze di Figaro; Chekalinsky, The Queen of Spades; Hortensio, Kiss Me, Kate and Rinuccio, Gianni Schicchi. Michael was awarded second place at the 2014 Piccola Opera Vocal Competition. He also received the Chancellor’s Talent Award at his alma mater all four years of his studies.

Alongside his freelance performance, Michael enjoys sharing his skills as a voice teacher and music director. Michael is nourished by his pursuits of outreach and education. This year he will serve as a guest judge for the NATS National Student Auditions: Boston Chapter vocal competition. As music director for a local YMCA, the thrill of inspiring critical thinking, creativity, and self-expression through music and performance art is fundamental to Michael’s creative happiness.
