About
Roberto Granados is a classical and flamenco guitarist and composer from Hayward California. First inspired at a young age by the music of Jimi Hendrix, Roberto began studying guitar at the age of six with Hungarian classical guitarist Gyorgy Vass. At the age of eight, he also became a student of Bay Area flamenco guitar virtuoso Jason McGuire. Since then, Roberto has studied with distinguished guitarists Marc Teicholz and Sergio Assad of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and has taken masterclasses from numerous prominent guitarists including Diego del Morao, Paco Serrano, Juan Manuel Cañizares, Ben Verdery, Berta Rojas, David Tanenbaum, Muriel Anderson, Douglas Lora, and Carlos Barbosa-Lima.
Since beginning his study of the guitar, Roberto has taken part in performances across the nation. At the age of nine, he was selected to perform on NPR’s “From the Top,” playing La Catedral by Paraguayan guitarist and composer Augustín Barrios Mangoré.
In 2009, at ten years old, Roberto was invited to perform for and meet President Barack Obama at an event sponsored by the Democratic National Committee. That same year, he was invited to represent From the Top’s PBS series From the Top at Carnegie Hall, at the 36th Annual Emmy Awards.
Roberto made his professional solo debut with the California Symphony at the age of twelve, performing renowned Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo's famous Concierto de Aranjuez. Two years later, he also performed this work with the Santa Cruz Symphony under the direction of conductor Daniel Stewart.
More recently, Roberto has played in Bay Area-based professional classical guitar ensemble the San Francisco Guitar Quartet, performed with singer Jon Anderson of the English progressive rock band Yes, and worked with critically acclaimed ukulele extraordinaire Jake Shimabukuro.
Roberto is currently pursuing a Bachelor of the Arts degree in music at California State University East Bay, and is studying under prominent classical guitarist Marc Teicholz. He continues to arrange and compose music for classical and progressive metal guitar, and works with audio production, mixing, and mastering. He plays guitar in an internationally-based Death Metal band called The Perrin Sequence. Along with fellow former ensemble-mate Mark Simons, cofounder of the San Francisco Guitar Quartet, Roberto has also recently formed a classical guitar duo under the name SFG2, the San Francisco Guitar Duo.
