Sarah Kim
Viola
About
Sarah Kim was born in Alexandria, Virginia and was raised with a strong
Korean background. Although she did not start her musical career at a young age as
others, her talent for viola grew quickly as she started to play seriously in middle
school under the teaching of Young Park. Her skills rapidly developed under the fine
care of Ron Houston, a graduate of the New England Conservatory. In 2010, she
graduated from the Plano Senior High School as an alumna of several All- Region
orchestras, Texas All-State orchestras, and a six-year member of the Greater Dallas
Youth Orchestra.
She has also been principle violist since 2010 at the University of Texas at
Arlington Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Clifton Evans. During her
first years in school, she fell victim to carpel tunnel syndrome and spent the
following year recovering. Although she was recovering, she advanced to the finals
of the UTASO Concerto Competition. In the same year, she became a member of the
Fort Worth Sinfonietta, a group of professional musicians that put together recitals.
In 2013, she entered the Los Colinas Symphony Orchestra as a reserve. Today, Sarah
Kim is under the practices of Miss Catherine Forbes, a graduate of the New England
Conservatory of Music and student of Heidi Castleman.
Although she loves performing, she has also found a passion for teaching. As
a private lessons instructor for the past years, Sarah Kim has led private sectionals
to large ensemble coachings. In 2010, she was an ensemble coach at Credo, which is
serves as a sister branch to Prelude, led by Peter Slowick of the Oberlin College
Conservatory of Music. As a current private lessons teacher in the Allen ISD and
Plano ISD, she enjoys teaching young kids and helping them appreciate music with
the talents that were given to them.
