About
Award-winning concert pianist Andrew Focks has a reputation for astonishing audiences with his poetic lyricism, depth of interpretation, and ferocious virtuosity. His career has taken him across the United States, Europe, and Asia as a solo recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician in such notable venues as Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, Austria's Vienna Hall, Italy's Pavone Theater, China's Grand Hall of the Sichuan Conservatory, Flachau's Schlosskonzert series, Boston's Williams Recital Hall, Rockport's Shalin Liu Performance Center, the Lakeland Center and Tampa's Neel Performing Arts Center, among many others.
A passionate educator, Mr. Focks is President of the Northeast Ohio Music Teacher's Association and Artist Teacher of Piano at the Aurora School of Music. His students are frequent prizewinners, accepted into prestigious music programs, and regularly garner high praise from some of the world’s most distinguished artists. A sought after adjudicator of piano competitions, Mr. Focks’ versatile career includes frequent lectures on analysis and improvisation as well as presentations for music teacher associations.
Mr. Focks holds degrees in piano performance from Florida State University (BM) and Rice University (MM) and received pre-college training from the New England Conservatory of Music. His teachers have included Daniel Shapiro, Jon Kimura Parker, Read Gainsford, and Ya-Fei Chuang. He is currently completing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
