Tomaz Soares – Violinist
Born in Uberlandia, Minas Gerais, Brazil, Tomaz Soares is an active recitalist, chamber musician and concertmaster. His is the recipient of the William M. Spencer Scholarship award (USA-2014), the Penrose and Mahaffey Scholarship Fund Award (USA, 2012), among others. In 2009, he got first prize in the 13th edition of the Brazilian National Strings Competition “Paulo Bosisio”. In Brazil, he appeared as soloist with the Brazilian National Symphony Orchestra of Fluminense Federal University (OSN-UFF - Rio de Janeiro), ‘Music at the Museum’ Youth Orchestra, UNIRIO Symphony Orchestra and Camargo Guarnieri Orchestra.
He holds bachelor of music degree at Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) studying with Prof. Dr. Paulo Bosisio. Since 2011, he is a OSN-UFF’s member, where he was concertmaster for two seasons. In addition, he is a Petrobras Symphony Orchestra’s member. Currently on leave of absence from his orchestral duties, he is pursing a master of music degree at Northwestern University – Bienen School of Music, USA, where he studies with Prof. Almita Vamos and Dr. Roland Vamos.
