This program combines some of my favorite repertoire works with some of my own music. The Bach-Busoni Chaconne, in my opinion, is the greatest of all piano transcriptions—Busoni managed to transform Bach's towering solo violin work into a gothic cathedral without losing the spirit of the original. And Schubert's piano music has always held a particular fascination for me, both his sonatas and his late collections of short pieces, such as the Impropmptus, Moment musicaux, and Klavierstücke. I have enjoyed pairing these works with some of my own, which (I feel) connect strongly to the "classical" (for lack of a better term!) repertoire, expanding and innovating in its own way. These particular works of mine were all written for dance, part of a long history of collaboration with choreographers that I've engaged with since moving to NYC.
