Igor Stravinsky - L’Histoire du Soldat
Igor Stravinsky's "A Soldier's Tale" (L'Histoire du Soldat) is a seminal work of the early 20th century, composed in 1918. This theatrical piece, combines narrative, music, and dance to tell a modernized fairy tale about a soldier who trades his fiddle to the devil for a book of fortune.
Owen Dodds - Trio for Clarinet, Violin, Piano
This brand new work, composed specially for the Béla Trio, will receive its official premier this November at Stony Brook University’s Contemporary Chamber Players. Owen’s musical language draws from his involvement with a diverse array of classical genres as well as Jazz and Americana folk music.
Béla Bartók - Contrasts
Béla Bartók’s Contrasts, composed in 1938, is a vivid example of his innovative approach to blending folk music with classical forms. Written for the unusual combination of violin, clarinet, and piano, this suite is a dynamic exploration of contrasting moods and styles, reflecting Bartók’s deep engagement with Eastern European folk traditions and his distinctive modernist voice.
