Historical context

Sunrise of the Planetary Dream Collector, by Terry Riley, is unlike anything we’ve worked on before in the string quartet repertoire. Comprised of 23 different musical modules that can be played in any order or combination, and with all dynamics, bow techniques and phrasing left up to the performers, it truly is a piece that will sound different every time you hear it! We’re also featuring Caroline Shaw’s ‘Entr’acte’, which ebbs and flows from lush, tonal harmonies to sections with extended technique and dissonance, and the genre-bending ‘Four, for Tango’ by Astor Piazzolla.
