Historical context
R&B music is a musical genre developed by Black Americans in the 1940s that derived from gospel, jazz, folk, and traditional blues music. It emerged in tandem with rock ānā roll, but diverged from it in later decades. One of the early styles of R&B was jump blues, pioneered by Louis Jordan. The golden age of R&B occurred in the 1950s and 60s, with artists like Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin. R&B music evolved in the 1970s and 80s with influences from funk, disco, and new jack swing. However, I am also a lover of classical music. Although I was surrounded by R&B music as a child, I am also a lover of Classical music since its use in animated TV productions during my childhood. And I first experienced a live opera on a school field trip as an 8-year-old. That love has continued since then. Could my vocal style be attributed to a blending of both?
