Full program notes
Throughout the 19th century, instrumental soloists were inspired by opera and regularly arranged these large works for solo instruments or chamber ensembles. The harp is particularly well suited to this kind of repertoire : not only can it accompany itself as it replicates the lyrical lines, but it is also an instrument of choice for opera composers, such as Puccini, Verdi, Wagner, Massenet, Offenbach, etc.
“The Operatic Harp” brings together several favourites from the operatic repertoire in an intimate setting, taking the audience on a journey throughout different european countries. Composers include Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Handel and more !
