I selected these pieces (some of my favorites to play) to show a range of Brazilian choro, from older, more famous pieces to some by living composers. Choro originated in Brazil around the same time as ragtime in the United States, but is still an art form that is very much alive and innovating. I’ve also included pieces in other popular Brazilian styles, such as samba (originating in Rio de Janeiro), and maracatu and baião (originating in the Northeast of Brazil).
