One of the joys of so vast and long-lived a tradition as classical music is how it has manifested local vernacular as it has been picked up around the world.
A beloved example of this is the Argentine sensation Astor Piazzolla, and thanks to our friends at the musician-run Pro-Arte Chamber Orchestra, this weekend we’ll have an opportunity to revel in the heart of Buenos Aires — without leaving the cold confines of our North East. So it’s off to Harvard University’s Sanders Theater for a Night Out!
For the occasion, Pro-Arte is bringing in a world-famous bandoneon virtuoso Juanjo Mosalini. The bandoneon is an Argentinian instrument much beloved by Piazzolla that sounds a bit like an accordion, but is played very differently. It conjures the spirit of Latin America out of thin air (moving through metal reeds) and to hear it wielded in hands as subtle and virtuosic as Mosalini's will be such a staggering delight.
In addition to some eternal Piazzolla favorites, the program will also feature an original concerto by Juanjo Mosalini himself, featuring his bandoneon in full force.
Tickets to an evening of such joy and festive color typically average $40, but it's Groupmuse after all, so you can get yours here for only $20! But supplies are limited so make your move!
And have a blast of a Night Out!
