Many of our beloved ‘musers have come to know Joseph Haydn by way of his string quartets — and rightly so: not only did he create the genre, he wrote almost 70 pieces in the form, all of which buzz with such energy and creativity. Others in our community have perhaps seen a Haydn Symphony at a Night Out, which is also fitting — he created that genre too. But perhaps his most potent and sublime creations were those for chorus and orchestra, and we’re proud to declare, we’ve got one ready for you.

It’s all thanks to our wonderful friends at the Handel and Haydn Society — the oldest extant orchestra this side of the Atlantic and to this day, perhaps the most celebrated period instrument orchestra in the country.

The evening starts with Mozart’s ebullient and youthful 4th Violin Concerto, with the great Aisslinn Nosky leading the band. It’s followed by Haydn’s 100th Symphony, his Military Symphony and as perfect a symphony as he ever wrote.

The finale is Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass - so named because it premiered the same day that the British Admiral Horatio Nelson’s forces dealt Napoleon’s Army a devastating blow - great news for both the British and Haydn’s Austria alike.

Haydn’s most major biographer, H. C. Robbins Landon, called the world "arguably Haydn's greatest single composition”. You’ve gotta hear it to believe it.

Tickets average $50 or more, but we’ve got a stack for only $20! So much substance and beauty and fire for merely a Jackson. But supplies aren’t infinite, so make your move!

And have a great Night Out!
