I'm hosting and performing with two of my wonderful friends from Juilliard! We've prepared what might be the most well-loved Romantic piano trio of all, the passionate and glorious Mendelssohn D minor, and I'll be opening the evening in D major with Bach's Fourth Partita, by turns ebullient and introspective.
The program constitutes, if you will, a mini "Bach Revival": Felix Mendelssohn was the great champion of Bach's music in the early Romantic period. In 1829, he famously conducted the then-obscure St. Matthew Passion. Mendelssohn absorbed Bach's towering craft and spirituality into his own music at the same time that he brought it newly to the public.
Come on over!
What's the music?
J.S. Bach: Keyboard Partita no. 4 in D major, BWV 828
Mendelssohn: Piano Trio no. 1 in D minor, op. 49
