It’s often assumed that sacred music of the Baroque is the music of Christendom. But, of course, the spiritual fabric of Europe has always been rich and deeply diverse and this Thursday, thanks to our wonderful friends at ARTEK, we’ll celebrate an under-sung strand of that fabric with an evening of music from the Jewish Baroque.
ARTEK is one of the premier early music ensembles in The City and they’re gathering in the Ansche Chesed Synagogue — an enormous masterpiece of Byzantine Revival architecture — for an evening of rare gems of Jewish musical history.
Madrigals, motets, fantasies and more from the Jewish court musicians of England and Italy - it’ll be an evening of the ancient sublime.
Tickets are typically $25, but we’ve got a stack for a mere $15 (and $10 for Supermusers). Sales close up Thursday morning, so make your move!
And have a great Night Out!
What's the music?
Madrigals, motets, fantasies, and dances by Salamone Rossi, Lupo, and several members of the Bassano family. If you missed last spring’s sold-out performance, here’s another chance to hear this fabulous music.
