St. Thomas Church is one of the grandest and holiest sanctums on the ever-hectic island of nonstop motion and change we call Manhattan. Next week, it has an important birthday - the 100th anniversary of the Saint Thomas Choir School, which has, for a century now, been cultivating that divine gift we’re all endowed with - the human voice - so that we may sing the praises of that which inspires. For the occasion, they’ve prepared a remarkable concert, and they’ve invited us along for a Night Out to join!
They’re bringing in the legendary Orchestra of St. Luke’s for the occasion, and they begin with the dazzling and breathtaking Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Celebrated pianist and St. Thomas Director of Music Jeremy Filsell will be on the keys.
Then, The Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys take the stage, and all those hundreds of voices and instruments join to unleash excerpts from T. Tertius Noble’s Gloria Domini, a 20th Century British masterwork, and Stephen Paulus’ Prayers and Remembrances - written for the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
So much sound, spirit, and power in so potent and overwhelming a place. Sounds like a Thursday night with Groupmuse! Tickets are typically $40, but we’ve got a huge discount for only $15 — and supplies are limited so make your move!
And have a great Night Out!
