Last year, Smithsonian Associates -- committed to bringing great, life-affirming, and enlightening cultural experience through Our Nation's Capital, invited us along for a couple of sold-out concerts featuring the Emerson String Quartet, one of this past century's finest and most important chamber ensembles. Our crowd absolutely loved the evenings and they must have loved us back, because this Sunday, we're once again invited to join for a Night Out with the Emerson at the Museum!
This'll be the Emerson's 41st season at the Museum, and they're coming in with the heavy hitters for the occasion:
- Mozart's 21st String Quartet, one of his last, written only two years before his untimely departure. It's regal, it's tuneful, it's sublime. It's Mozart.
- Fanny Mendelssohn's String Quartet in E-flat Major. Overshadowed by her brother Felix in her life time and in the 150 years since, Fanny Mendelssohn's genius is finally getting its due. This string quartet is a prime manifestation of that genius; let us witness it!
- Beethoven's Harp String Quartet, a peak expression of Beethoven's electrifying Romantic spirit, before he turned more inward and deeply enigmatic in his last years. It's a rocking good time this one.
Tickets typically cost $60, but we've got a stack for only $25 -- more than 50% off! But it'll probably disappear, so make your move!
What's the music?
Mozart: String Quartet in D Major, K. 575 “King of Prussia”
Fanny Mendelssohn: String Quartet in E-flat Major
Beethoven: String Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 74, “Harp”
