Chaconnes and chacareras, milongas and menuets, from the palaces of Versailles to the cafés of Buenos Aires. Mark Wilson weaves a tapestry of dances that sing of past glories, lost loves, and the possibility of renewal. This program will feature a wide range of music. Starting with the court of the Sun King, Louis XIV with composers Francesco Corbetta and Francois Couperin we then move to music that refers to another Sun King, Quetzalcoatl, the second in the pantheon of the Aztecs and the music that emerged when the elements of European art music collided with indigenous and African influences. The second half of the concert will feature the music of neglected guitar greats Carlos Moscardini and Quique Sinese.
Ample street parking is available. Metro #5 or #44. Our house is high off the street and it's thirty steps to the front door. Attendees will be asked to make a donation (minimum $10) all of which goes to the musician. Please bring any drinks and snacks you'd like to share.
Note: Please do not arrive early unless you have a special need and have communicated with me. Both hosts and musicians require preparation and set up time. The start time (7:30) means that is the time you should arrive, and you can expect the program will start slightly later. Thanks for your consideration.
