The Metropolitan Museum of Art is more than just a building. It's a commitment to a spirit of culture and creation that defines this City. And, in fact, it is literally more than a building — it’s a handful of buildings, some of which are known as The Cloisters, in Fort Tryon Park, at the very tip of Manhattan. The Cloisters are miracle of the Old World in the heart of the New World and its sacred halls are home to over 5,000 art works as old as time. And, on occasion - this Saturday being one of them - they host performances. And! For this one, our dear friends at the Met are inviting us along for a couple of incredibly special performances.
Happening in the most glorious Fuentidueña Apse — a 900 year old Spanish chapel that was meticulously reconstructed to live here on this island — the six-member vocal ensemble from Estonia known as Heinavanker will take us on an a cappella odyssey - from runic songs and folk hymns to the contemporary classics of Arvo Pärt. The sublime magic of these human voices entwined and resonating with the ancient stone of the sacred space — it’ll be something you’ll truly never forget.
It’s a small and deeply intimate space, so our stacks of tickets are small, but they’re spread over two performances:
3pm on Saturday
Typically tickets run $65 — but the wonderful folks at the Met have given Groupmusers a huge discount: You can get yours for a mere $25! But, like I say, the stacks are small and these will fly, so make your move!
And have a great Night Out!
What's the music?
This stunning Estonian a cappella ensemble performs timeless compositions ranging from runic songs and folk hymns to the contemporary classics of Arvo Pärt. Presented in the intimate and magical Fuentidueña Chapel, these unusual voices create a sonic environment that is both ethereal and deeply human.
