The human voice is the original musical instrument - one we’re all endowed with, and it has played a role in nearly every musical tradition the world has known. In the world of classical music, too, it’s played a foundational role — though admittedly we at Groupmuse find ourselves more celebrating the strings than the pipes at our more intimate scale. But the classical voice isn’t just at home in the opera house: a rich and practically endless tradition of “art songs” or lieder, for just voice and piano, took root centuries ago and was created with smaller gatherings in mind.
San Francisco’s own Lieder Alive does the important work of honoring and exploring the art song tradition, and brings through some of the nation’s finest singers to share it. And, for one of their first concerts of the season, they want us to join for a Groupmuse Night Out!
The radiant tenor Pene Pati, who’s been known to grace the stage of the San Francisco Opera, is joined by pianist Ronny Greenberg for an evening of German songs by R. Strauss, who was arguably the most astonishing musical force of the Late Romantic Era, and Paolo Totsi - an Italian composer who wrote innumerable beloved tunes. There’s also a surprise encore that we honestly don’t know anything about except that it's there.
Tickets to the evening of song are $40 at the door, but we’ve got a stack for you at just $20! But supplies aren’t limitless, so what are you waiting for!?
