Please join us at the Fonvielle Guitar Studio for an evening of Brazilian and Latin American Guitar. The event is upstairs from the Java Grill in Old Town.
What's the music?
I will perform selections from the rich guitar tradition of Brazil, Cuba, Argentina and other Latin American countries, including pieces by Baden Powell, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Luis Bonfá, and Antonio Jobim from Brazil; Agustín Barrios Mangoré (Paraguay); Leo Brouwer (Cuba); Eduardo Falú (Argentina).
I will perform some of my original compositions as well as arrangements of popular songs, including instrumentals from the 50s and 60s on my vintage electric guitar.
I'm looking forward to performing some new pieces, such as "Manha do Carnaval" by Luis Bonfá. On my vintage electric guitar, I'll perform Santo and Johnny's "Sleepwalk," from 1959; Fleetwood Mac's "Albatross," which I combine with a bluesy arrangement of Erik Satie's "Gymnopedie No 1;" and my arrangement of Rodrigo's "Adagio" from the majestic Concierto de Aranjuez.
Host Bill Fonvielle, a luthier (classical guitar maker) will give a tour of his shop and talk briefly about the craft of guitar making.
