This will be our fifth Groupmuse, and we love hosting. This evening will feature cellist Evan Kahn, visiting from San Francisco, playing duets with a wonderful violinist, Usha Kapoor.
Here's the program:
Handel-Halvorssen โ Passacaglia
Bach โ Violin Partita No. 2
Ravel โ duo for violin and cello, mvt. 2
Sokolovic โ Vez, for solo cello
Bach โ Cello Suite No. 6 in D major, II. Allemande
Mozart โ Duo in G major
Evan Kahn (our son!) is principal cellist of Symphony Silicon Valley and acting principal cellist of Opera San Jose. He was featured on NPR's "Performance Today" as Young Artist-in-Residence in April 2018. As a chamber musician, he performs with the award-winning Lazuli String Quartet, and frequently plays with world-class guest artists who visit the Bay Area, including Kim Kashkashian, Donald Weilerstein, and Leon Fleisher. As a soloist, he is performing the Shostakovich Cello Concerto with the Palo Alto Symphony and the Kahn Concerto for Cello and Orchestra with the Livermore-Amador Symphony in 2019, and has performed with the Veridian Symphony Orchestra, Segah Festival Orchestra, Diablo Symphony Orchestra, and Pittsburgh String Orchestra, as well as the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic and San Francisco Conservatory Orchestra, after winning both institutionsโ concerto competitions.
Usha Kapoor is originally from Arizona, and she and Evan met at the Aspen Music Festival. Usha is in town as a featured soloist with the Culver City Chamber Orchestra. She and Evan are constantly looking for opportunities to work together. It will be a very special evening!
