Host
We had such fun hosting our first GroupMuse concert a few months ago and we're ready to do it again! Please join us for a wonderful evening of classical music and friendly faces in our historic home near Cheesman Park. Participants are asked to donate $10 per person that goes directly to our performers in addition to a $3 fee when you secure your reservation to the event. Feel free to BYOB and wear comfy clothes as we sit around (including on the floor) to listen to the concert. We encourage you to arrive 30 minutes before the concert starts to mingle with old and meet new friends. RSVP to the link below.
What's the music?
Karl, Kari and Sarah play together frequently on viols and modern instruments around Denver in the freelance scene. They come together for this evening as Sotto Voce, a viol consort focusing on repertoire from the early Rennaissance to late Baroque. Each piece is a gem in its own right, preserved in music history like a fly in amber, oftentimes a strange and accidental relic of a complete stranger. In the romantic era, composers achieving rockstar status burned music they didn't want to be canonized by future audiences. We play music from more anonymous sources, the composers leaving the music to us in most circumstances virtually uncurated. They almost certainly didn't expect their tunes to have found their way to a living room in an undiscovered continent! We will present it with an informal historical commentary, though it's possible to enjoy it without knowing the back story!
Fantasia in D minor, John Jenkins (1592-1678)
Pavan a 3, Anon
Trio de la Premiere Mode, Peter Phillips (1560-1628)
Der Hund, Heinrich Isaak (1450-1517)
Presto Assai (from the Baryton trios), Joseph Haydn (1732-1809)
Browning, Elway Bevin (1554-1638)
