Come for some beauty, light, and music next to Central Park.
What's the music?
About the music: You'll hear classics of the bassoon quartet repertoire, such as Prokofiev's Humorous Scherzo, as well as a wide variety of arrangements, including Bernstein's famous Candide Overture and a delightful set of preludes by Shostakovich originally for piano. The quartet includes three bassoons and one contrabassoon, the unusual instrument that plays even lower than a double bass.
About the musicians: We are four bassoonists who spent the summer playing as a quartet in Central Park. We are graduates of Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, and Yale, and we all regularly perform and teach around NYC.
Bernstein, arr. Sommer: Overture to Candide
Lussier: Bassango
Shostakovich, arr. Sommer: Four Preludes, Op. 34
Prokofiev: Humorous Scherzo
Corrette: Le Phenix
Lassus, arr. Sommer: La Nuit Froide et Sombre
Mancini, arr. Sommer: Peter Gunn Suite
Anderson, arr. Jackson: Bassoonist’s Holiday
