Take 2. We are having to reschedule the Thalea String Quartet's performance due to our original date being the exact same day and time as the Academy Awards.
Our new day and time is Saturday, March 3 at 7pm!!
We just had the good fortune to hear the Thalea String Quartet perform at the Officer's Club in the Presidio. What an amazing group of talented and charming players! This group is committed to making the string quartet accessible to more people so they offer a varied and fun repertoire.
For us they will likely be performing Garth Knox’s Satellites and Shostakovich String Quartet No 3. Knox's pieces is about dimensions and is played out in the way the musicians use their bows! They may also play a Haydn string quartet - Haydn was the "inventor" of the string quartet formation.
PROGRAM CHANGE as of 2/12: Mendelsohn String Qrt. No. 6, Opus 80 will replace the Shostakovich! The piece was completed two months before he died on 4 November 1847. He composed the quartet as an homage to his sister Fanny who had died on 17 May of that year and it bears the title "Requiem for Fanny."
The quartet members are:
Christopher Whitley - violin
Kumiko Sakamoto - violin
Luis Bellorin - viola
Titilayo Ayangade - cello

What's the music?
Howdy everyone and thank you Lisa for the lovely intro ^^^^above ^^^^
We are the SF based Thalea String Quartet and we are groupmuse experts! Not only do we love to play excellent music, but we love to engage and talk to our audiences to help frame and give context to works that range from the beautiful to the fierce and edgy.
The program will currently consist of two of our favorite pieces, Mendelssohn's Op. 80 string quartet (video here: https://youtu.be/NHPmnj1ZW0Y) and Garth Knox's piece titled "Satellites" written for SF's own, and legendary string quartet, the Kronos Quartet!
Follow us (and our shenanigans) at our website where you can sign up on our mailing list (https://www.thaleastringquartet.com/contact) and find all of our social media accounts as well. Looking forward! -Cheers, TSQ
