Keep reading to learn about the inspiration behind my debut album, my solo journey through Spain, and my personal connection to this repertoire.

My debut studio EP album, Andalusia: Spanish Guitar Music, is now available for streaming at my Digital Music Store (www.tyeaustin.com/musicstore/) and SoundCloud (@tyeaustinguitar). This EP was independently released on December 15, 2017 and features 20 minutes of Spanish guitar music by Francisco Tarrega, Miguel Llobet, Manuel de Falla, Anonymous, and your’s truly. Spanish guitar music inspired me to pick up the instrument for the first time when I was sixteen-years-old. After the first year of my graduate studies in guitar performance at the New England Conservatory, I traveled through Spain for the entire summer of 2015. I gained profound insight into the history of Spanish guitar music while performing in the cave dwellings and tapas bars of Andalusia, and taking flamenco lessons with native guitar masters, David Martinez and Adrian Ruis. During this solo voyage, I visited ten different Spanish cities and paid homage to the historical monuments and childhood homes of my favorite composers such as Francisco Tarrega, Manuel de Falla, Joaquin Rodrigo, Andres Segovia, and many others. I contemplated the music of my guitar heroes as I witnessed the muses that inspired their original works of genius. I remember learning Tarrega’s famous tremolo work, Recuerdos de la Alhambra, while overlooking the Alhambra Palace from my rooftop terrace in Granada.

You can listen to the entire EP album on my website and on SoundCloud for free, but please pay $5 or more if you can. Everyone who pays will receive a digital download of the EP via email. All profits will go towards recording the full-length album, which will include additional Spanish guitar works by Fernando Sor, Enrique Granados, Isaac Albeniz, and Joaquin Turina. Thanks for your generosity and support! I hope to see you at the concert! Keep reading for my program and bio below.

Artist's Bio:
Hailed by NBC News for making “...the guitar sing like it was invented only to be in his hands,” native Oregonian Tye Austin (age 28) is an international award-winning classical guitarist and composer based in New York City. Within a decade of picking up the instrument, he has performed solo at Carnegie Hall, London’s Royal Albert Hall, the United Nations, US French Embassy, and he’s been interviewed by Psychology Today, The Boston Guardian, and live on National Public Radio. The 2017-18 concert season will see him perform in concert and present a lecture on Entrepreneurial Musicianship at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. Tye plays a wide range of musical genres from classical to jazz and contemporary pop, but his favorite is Spanish guitar music. In 2015, he traveled through Spain and gained profound insight into the history of Spanish guitar music while studying with David Martinez and Adrian Ruis. As a prodigious composer/arranger with over fifty original works to his name, Tye is also dedicated to expanding the classical guitar repertoire. His fundamental music studies began at Southern Oregon University in 2008, and he received his Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory in 2016, where he studied with legendary maestro Eliot Fisk (the last direct pupil of Andres Segovia). Tye plays an Antonio Lorriente Guitar from Madrid, Spain. In his spare-time, he enjoys meditating, reading in solitude, and riding his bike through Central Park.
