Welcome all! GLINT is excited to have you for this extra-special Groupmuse-facilitated event.
Formed in 2014 at the Zephyr International Chamber Music Festival in Courmayeur, Italy, the Thalea String Quartet has been praised for their “vibrant performance” and “sincere expressivity” (SF Classical Voice). The quartet has performed recitals in Italy, the United States and Canada and recently completed their tenure as the first quartet-in-residence at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. They were named one of the “Top 10 Bay Area Quartets You Should Know” by CultureTrip.com and were the recipients of the 2016 Barbara Fritz Chamber Music Award from the Berkeley Piano Club. They made their debut at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC in early 2016.
This event is BYO, and please feel free to bring snacks or beverages to share. Our home is pet-free and family-friendly. We are a second-floor apartment with about 22 steps up, so plan your accessibility needs accordingly.
We have room to seat about 20 (first-come first-serve) and Standing Room and Floor Space for about 30 more.

What's the music?
HIIIIII SOMERVILLE!!!!!!! We are the Thalea String Quartet, and we are currently on tour from SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA! We are seasoned groupmuse players which means: not only do we play well, but we love connecting and getting to know our audience, as we unpack excellent repertoire TOGETHER!
Our first set starts with a throwback from THE MAN, Joseph Haydn, with a piece written in 1797 (Op. 76, No. 5 in D Major). We then hop in a time machine and fast forward 200+ years with a modern piece written by Garth Knox called 'Satellites'. We'll be playing one movement, SNEAK PREVIEW HERE: https://youtu.be/rj0J9DY6Wa0
Our 2nd set will be a serious affair, consisting only of Felix Mendelssohn's F Minor Op. 80 string quartet. It was the last major piece he completed before he died two months later in November 1847. He composed the piece as an homage to his sister, who had died on May 17th of that year.
Come hang and BYOB, we'd love to meet ya!
Cheers,
TSQ
