This will be the first ever Groupmuse on Nantucket, but we hope it will start a new trend with the support and involvement of the Nantucket Music Center and its many fine artists. This Groupmuse will be held in the gardens at our place in Tom Nevers where we have trees and flowers, a large play area, a swimming pool and cabana. The music will be performed by the Rossini Club, a group of ~ 18 musicians who are actively engaged in a creative process involving composers, performers, and laymen working together, seeking to put the heart back into classical music. Musicians in this program include James Blanchard, flute, Nick Davies, clarinet, Ivy Ringel, bassoon, and Cindy Qin, harp. The hour-long program will include music by Piazolla, Poulenc, Jolivet, Mignone and Denisov. There will be two half-hour sessions, the first beginning about 6:00 p.m. HOWEVER, you’re welcome to come as early as 4:30 to take a swim before the performance begins. (Bring your own towel!) You can also swim after the performance. Bring your own beer, wine or alcohol with any mixers you like and various munchies you want to go with it. We’ll have ice. Stay as late as 9:00 or 9:30 if you’d like. You might also want to bring your own beach chairs, blankets or beach towels to put on the ground since there will be a limited number of chairs, and age gets priority on chairs! However – you can bring the whole family, including children over 4 years of age if you’re quite certain they won’t interrupt the music. In addition to the swimming pool there are swings, slides, and other children oriented activities in the garden. If it the weather forecast on Wednesday morning indicates that Friday August 11th is going to be rainy, we’ll change the date to Thursday, August 10th; check with this website on Wednesday to confirm the date. (Children need to be listed on the Groupmuse site, and it will be helpful for us to generate an accurate headcount of folks attending the performance and playing in the pool or on the playground if you let us know who is under age 15.)
What's the music?
Poulenc: Sonata for Clarinet & Bassoon
Piazolla: l'Histoire du Tango
Denisov: Sonata for Solo Clarinet
Jolivet: Pastorales de Noel
Bozza: Suite Breve en Trio
