Join us for a performance of Schoenberg's Verklarte Nacht (Transfigured Night), an epic string sextet based on an even more epic German poem. There's a love triangle, a dark moonlit walk in the forest, a dramatic confession, feminism, and a pregnancy (!). Most most epic of all, you'll hear almost no hint of the twelve-tone music that typically defines Schoenberg. This is lush romanticism at its best, which, coupled with the inevitable SF fog rolling over the hills, makes for a magically transfigured afternoon.
We'll also play a few movements from Tchaikovsky's Souvenir de Florence. Music will start at 2:30pm.
What's the music?
Schoenberg's Verklarte Nacht and Tchaikovsky's Souvenir de Florence (select movements)!
