It's high time for another group muse in Cole Valley. Come hear pianist Ian Scarfe play! http://www.ianscarfe.com/home/Welcome.html
What's the music?
Ludwig van Beethoven - Piano Sonata No. 30 in E Major, Op. 109
Jean Sibelius - Violin Concerto in D Minor, Op. 47
Join pianist Ian Scarfe and violinist Azat Fishyan for an exploration of two transcendent works by composers Beethoven and Sibelius.
Written late in his life, long after he had completely lost his hearing, the Piano Sonata in E Major is the first of Beethoven's "Final Trilogy" of piano sonatas. With deafness and poor health, Beethoven grew increasingly isolated from his friends and the world around him. His music turned inwards as well - this Sonata has a tone of spiritual ecstasy, beginning with simplicty and directness and moving toward an intense and transcendent experience.
Jean Sibelius' Violin Concerto is one of the great masterpieces of Romantic violin music. Dark and brooding, this work showcases the virtuosity and imagination of the violinist and packs an emotional punch with its colorful orchestral piano part.
