What is love? For centuries, poets and musicians have been answering this question in their own ways. On this night we bring you the many faces of love, as seen through the eyes of history's most passionate composers; the poignant despair of Romeo and Juliet, the tears of John Dowland, the tortured passion of Leoš Janáček, the soulful joy of Arensky's Tchaikovsky Variations, and the bombastic fervor of Prokofiev. Every face is given it's due, and every side of this boundlessly spectacular emotion that unites us all explored.
Lovers' Tears Program:
Nino Rota arr. Alex Goodin, Romeo and Juliet Love Theme
John Dowland, Lachrimae Amantis (Lover’s Tears)
Sergei Prokofiev, Violin Duo
Leoš Janáček, String Quartet No. 2, “Intimate Letters”
Anton Arensky, Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky
