Hello! Join me for a lively Sunday afternoon. Brunch basics will be provided! Feel free to bring any additional food or drink for yourself or others. Thanks.
What's the music?
Brooklyn-based violist Kallie Ciechomski presents an afternoon of viola works centered around composers who are women paired with movements of Bach.
The program features music by Joan Tower, Augusta Read Thomas, and Pauline Oliveros, plus an adaption of a 1,000 year old piece by Hildegard von Bingen. The performance will also explore the interaction between these newer works and more standard repertoire, such as Bach's solo suites.
The centerpiece of this concert is a totally new piece by Mariel Berger, which is a feminist counterpoint to the male-dominated classical world, and unfolds itself to depict a female orgasm.
