Let a 1 hour OPEN BAR provided by HARLEM BREWING unleash your inner caveman!
Uptown hardbody factory and exercise mecca LIBERATED FITNESS turns into an elemental music space to host PRIMALMUSE, a nocturnal ode to pasttimes which we share with our most ancient ancestors: alcohol, live music, and the ensuing desire to dance our fucking asses off.
"His pagan barbarity, his explosive and angrily defiant melancholy, his demoniacal instinct . . . these are all echoes . . . of the thousand-year-old Hungarian psyche."
-Emil Harazsti on Bartok's music
Simplistic, percussive, dancelike, and ethereal -- folk music of the Hungarian countryside's gypsies and villagers inspired 20th century composer Bela Bartok's greatest works. Perhaps above all of them stands the 4th String Quartet.
Come join us for an event inspired by this great masterpiece.
Put simply:
Let's get a little buzzed, listen to the gloriously primal and impossibly ingenious 4th String Quartet by Bela Bartok, and proceed to mingle and dance the night away to the folk music of today: the best in cutting edge hip-hop and house.
Bartok would have approved.
Order of events:
7 - 8 P.M. Open bar. BEER PROVIDED BY HARLEM BREWING! Plus wine and paleo cocktails. Drinks sold for $3 thereafter.
8 P.M. A brief introduction to Bartok and his 4th String Quartet
