Good things come in twos:

Shoes.
Eyeballs.
Two slices of cake.
The first and second Lord of the Rings Books.
The second and third Lord of the Rings Books.

And now: For the first time ever:
Pianistsโ€

The Naughton Sisters have emerged as perhaps the preeminent piano duo of our generation. And they're twins! They've been written about all over, they've played before tons of major orchestras worldwide, and now, courtesy of WCRB 99.5 FM and Warner Classics, they're here to groupmuse!

This massivemuse is one of a series of dogged and unflagging efforts on the part of WCRB/WGBH to make Groupmuse Boston so absurdly and totally awesome that we forget our sincerely-held ambitions to move to Arizona and bake in the sun for the rest of our lives as soon as the temperature drops below 50 again.

Enjoy, you great city!

PS The inimitable WGBH is providing the suds, as per usual, so do your best to be 21 or older.

โ€ This is most certainly not the first time two pianists have played together. I don't know who said that, but whoever it was should certainly be fired. There is a rich and diverse body of work written for both two pianos and one piano played by two people, from Mozart to Ravel and beyond. Schubert, in particular, brought the piano 4-hands form to heights that have arguably never been rivaled - indeed, his 4-hands masterworks are some of the greatest pieces ever written. Why did he focus with such creative intensity on a theretofore secondary form? Because he was writing music for living rooms! In other words, GROUPMUSE!

What's the music?
