Duo Gray-Magamedova
The Duo Gray-Magamedova has been performing together since 2019 and enjoys giving concerts throughout Europe and the United States as well as the Middle East and Asia. They are known for their unique and varied recital repertoire programs, particularly enjoying bringing unknown pieces into the spotlight and curating these programs often around a particular theme or concept such as Fairytales in music, pieces inspired by folk melodies, or neoclassicism and how composers look to the past to create new works. Their Fairytales project is being recorded with the franco-suisse label Evidence Classics (Little Tribeca) and will be released in early 2025.
As Young Artists in Residence at the Scandinavian Cello School in Denmark, they participate in numerous music outreach projects as well as public concerts throughout Scandinavia. Since their debut at Lincoln Center at Paul Hall (New York City) in 2019, the duo has continued to perform around the world, in venues such as the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Theatre for Digital Arts in Dubai, and the Tajikistan National Opera. In France, they have been invited on "Générations France Musique, le Live" as well as to give recital programmes. In 2022, they became laureates of the European Chamber Music Competition. As a duo, they continue their studies at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris with Itamar Golan and François Salque.

This program explores two monumental sonatas from the Romantic era, showcasing the rich musical dialogue between piano and cello. Written by two titans of piano music, Chopin and Rachmaninov, each sonata offers a unique pianistic perspective on the piano/cello duo where the spotlight falls onto the pianist.
Chopin's Sonata for Piano and Cello, Op. 65, is the final major work he composed before his death and it represents a remarkable artistic metamorphosis, pushing beyond Chopin's familiar forms of piano miniatures. The piece explores complex contrapuntal writing and an enriched harmonic language, creating a deep emotional landscape. The sonata becomes an intimate meditation on personal transformation while still remaining very Chopin-esque, with moments recalling his typical polonaises, scherzos, and nocturnes.
Rachmaninov's Sonata, composed a few months after his celebrated Second Piano Concerto (Op. 18), draws from the same musical language with beautiful flowing melodies and heart-stopping harmonies that characterize his most beloved works. The sonata presents an extraordinary musical conversation between piano and cello, marked by moments of hushed intimacy, intricate interwoven lines, and bombastic pianistic virtuosity.
