Host

Holly M. (she/her)

Experience the rich blend of global traditions and New Mexican roots with Round Mountain at this special Groupmuse concert. Santa Fe brothers Robby and Char Rothschild, joined by bassist Jon Gagan, include instruments like the West African kora, Irish bouzouki, trumpet, accordion, and Thracian gaida to create original world folk music. Drawing inspiration from Appalachia, Ireland, the Balkans, and beyond, their sound is deeply connected to New Mexico. Doors open at 7 PM, show starts at 7:30 PM. Join us for a soulful evening of storytelling through music!

What's the music?

Round Mountain World Folk Orchestra Trio

We will be performing original music from across and beyond our 4 album discography, giving voice to songs that we feel we need to play at this time for purposes of healing ourselves, our families, our community, and the life around us.

Where does this music come from?

We play music that is reflective of the meeting of cultures, through informal gatherings. In a sense this could be compared to an evening at a caravanserai or inn, or some other roadside place, where people may have been inspired to play music together using instruments that may never have met before. In that sense it is a very old tradition. Through our studies, our songs have taken on the rhythms, makams, and ornaments forged by many hands, from many places, and in that way they are a little bit like Russian Caravan tea that has taken on essences from so many caravan fires on so many evenings that, although the tea began as one thing, it has become something unique unto itself. In this way, we celebrate the way that each of us, whether acknowledged or not, represents such a unique metamorphosis.
