Host

James D.

Join us for a home concert featuring Alisa Rose, a Grammy-nominated violinist and composer with roots in classical music as well as the rich American musical tradition.

Alisa has appeared with a wide range of artists including the Real Vocal String Quartet, 2008 Rockygrass winners 49 Special, and Grammy-nominated Quartet San Francisco. Alisa performed and taught throughout Eastern Europe as an Ambassador of the State Department, and has performed at Carnegie Hall, NPR's Weekend Edition, the historic Carter Family Fold festival, TEDx Alcatraz with Bob Weir, Song of the Mountains on PBS, as well as numerous international tours.

She also happens to be my violin teacher and neighbor 😊

What's the music?

Scroggins & Rose violin and mandolin

This concert will celebrate the release of Speranza, the third collection from Scroggins & Rose, and their first on Adhyâropa Records. Folks can pre-order the album here! Conceived during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, this album came out of the darkness of that time; but rather than gloom, hopefulness and light permeate every corner of the recording. Scroggins and Rose are masters of their instruments, and the interplay between the two showcases not merely their virtuosity but their deep musical sensitivity for one another.

Scroggins & Rose is composed of two GRAMMY nominated musicians. Nashville based mandolinist Tristan Scroggins has been honored with a nomination for the International Bluegrass Music Association's Mandolin Player of the Year Award in 2021 and frequently performs in prestigious halls such as the Ryman Auditorium and the Grand Ole Opry. Bay Area violinist Alisa Rose was GRAMMY nominated for her work with Quartet San Francisco, has served as an Ambassador of the State Department with the Real Vocal String Quartet, and teaches at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
