Pianist / composer Sam Post will play his signature mix of original pieces, Bach arrangements, and music inspired by American rhythms.
We will have light snacks and apple cider. BYOB.
Street parking is available. We are also just a few feet from the bus stop on Buchanan St/14th St. Closest metro stop is Petworth/Georgia Ave.
After the music we will have spiced cider and a fire in the fire pit for anyone who wants to mingle!
What's the music?
In this concert I'll take you along for my journey of rhythmic discovery at the piano. I'll show how I came to find and compose in America's first popular syncopated genre (ragtime) and apply its lessons back to the music of Bach and more.
The concert will be a bit of an audience-chosen adventure: I'll play a few pieces in different styles and ask what you would like to explore more of, whether it's original music, music for one-hand piano, Syncopated Bach, or improvisations. Come along for this fun ride with me!
Some possible selections:
from the Well-"Tampered" Clavier (Preludes and Fugues by Bach arranged in syncopated style):
C minor, F sharp major, D major, B major
More Bach: Goldberg Variations (excerpts) or Two-part Inventions
Post - Tango Toccata, O'Carolan's Dream, Leapfrog Rag, and Etude for the Left Hand Alone, and more
Improvisations on suggestions from the audience
