Come enjoy an afternoon of piano and cello music in our living room in our Upper Rockridge home, featuring cellist James Jaffe and pianist Jon Lee, both of whom appear at concerts nationally and internationally. We'll gather at 3:00 and the music will begin at 3:30. Wine and nibbles on the terrace. Ample street parking.
What's the music?
Today we enjoy a wide artistic spectrum - the mood of this program changes from wistful longing to mischief to ultimate triumph, with even more stops along the way. See if you can track the evolving relationship between piano and cello sounds as crafted by Clara Schumann, Nikolai Kapustin, and Ludwig van Beethoven. Are the two voices meant to be unified or individual?
Clara Schumann ⟡ 3 Romances, op. 22
Nikolai Kapustin ⟡ Nearly Waltz, op. 98
Ludwig van Beethoven ⟡ Sonata for Cello and Piano in A Major, op. 69
