What's the music?
The Portuguese word “Saudade'' is widely recognized because of the lack of translation into other languages. Despite that, there are different attempts in order to explain it: some people may refer to the feeling of deeply missing someone, others may think about longing and a past experience that is gone, or even losing something you intensely loved. Despite all of those descriptions being more or less accurate, “Saudade” is also the feeling of being far far away from your home country, and since you are a long time gone, that place you knew will never come back, even if you come back. The repertoire of this program presents powerful pieces by Brazilian composers that address the problem of “saudade” in different ways, or are pieces that trigger that feeling because of its sound familiarity.
