This program will offer a rare opportunity to meet a living composer and hear him perform some of his own work.
What's the music?
Program:
Telemann - Fantasie No. 9 for Violins Solo
Wheeler - Sonata No. 2 "The Singing Turk" for Violin and Piano
Wheeler - Whispered Sarabande for solo violin
Bach - TBA from the Solo Sonatas and Partitas for Violin Solo
Wheeler - 2 Portraits for solo piano
Mozart - Sonata in E Minor, K. 304
Where does this music come from?
This program comprises deeply emotional works by composers spanning the centuries. Interestingly, in addition to the baroque works for solo violin by Telemann and Bach, the Sarabande by Scott Wheeler directly quotes from the Bach B Minor Partita and the Mozart sonata channels music from the baroque period in the second movement. The two portraits are musical impressions of two Newton residents who will be present at the concert. The Singing Turk draws on operatic arias for Turkish characters by Handel, Gibert and Rossini. It is a great privilege and a pleasure to have the composer present to play his own works!
