Host

A dream program of Brazilian Bossa Nova, featuring composers Antônio Carlos Jobim "the father of bossa nova", Vinicius de Moraes (the great poet, diplomat and musician), and Stan Getz (the one and only "cool school" saxophonist) among others. On vocals and guitar.

Bossa Nova, meaning new trend, literally was the new trend in the late 50's/early 60's in Rio and took the world by storm. The style is derived from samba but places more emphasis on the melody and less on the percussion. The sound is delicious --- a mellow guitar, a soft rhythm and almost whispered vocals. It never gets boring because the chord progressions are fairly complex. It is believed that the music was born in small apartments in Rio where the noise level had to be kept down.

I never cease to be amazed by the talent coming through Groupmuse!
