This is a groupmuse

A live concert in a living room, backyard, or another intimate space. They're casual and friendly, hosted by community members.

Host

Excited to be hosting again on the West side. Ozie Cargile attended our last Groupmuse and we are thrilled to have him perform in our home. Natalia and I are both artists with an eclectic circle of creative friends. We look forward to you joining us. Regrettably this event is not suitable for young children.

What's the music?

At this unique concert, I, Ozie Cargile, will be performing a selection of my own compositions that span my career. The program will include some of my earlier works like "Mixed Feelings" and "The Teacher," showcasing the lyrical and contemplative style that I've developed over the years. Attendees can also look forward to experiencing my newer compositions, including the "Love Theme", "Journey of Life" and the main theme from my audiobook, "The Laws of Consciousness." My music often blends elements of contemporary styles, incorporating jazz and avant-garde classical influences, along with an improvisatory element that's guided by the energetic flow of the room and the audience's engagement. This concert is a journey through my musical evolution, and each piece is a reflection of my experiences and insights as a Black American orchestral composer, pianist, and Hollywood film composer.

Where does this music come from?

The works I'll be performing are deeply embedded in a rich historical context that reflects both my personal journey as an artist and the broader cultural and musical movements that have influenced me. "Mixed Feelings" and "The Teacher" hark back to my formative years as a composer, where I began exploring the intricate relationship between music and emotion, and the profound impact of music on learning and personal growth. These pieces, along with my newer works like the "Love Theme" and themes from "The Laws of Consciousness," are manifestations of my exploration into the laws that govern our inner and outer worlds. My style has been shaped by the diverse landscapes of classical music, the expressive freedom of jazz, and the cutting-edge innovation of avant-garde classical music, all while being rooted in the African American experience and its rich musical heritage. This concert is not just a performance; it's a celebration of the journey, the struggles, and the triumphs that have shaped me as an artist and as a person, offering a glimpse into the future of music through my eyes.
