What's the music?
Marlon Martinez, Tristan Cappel, and I are thrilled to bring you an intimate program of trio music—with a fresh take on the works of jazz composer luminary Billy Strayhorn.
Strayhorn, made famous by his collaborations with Duke Ellington, was a profound influence on the swing era and beyond with unrivaled sophistication and color in his writing. An often unsung hero compared to Duke, this program highlights Strayhorn’s genius through his compositions—featuring iconic tunes and a few deep cuts.
Tristan, Marlon, and I will also add a few of our own compositions to the roster that are inspired by Strayhorn and several other historic jazz composers. We are ecstatic to bring you this program and showcase all the musical possibilities that can come from just a trio!
Marlon Martinez, bass
Tristan Cappel, saxophone and woodwinds
Max Berlin, piano
