Get Valentine's off to a jazzy start with this super talented trio in our historic Victoria Park living room. Come cozy up by the fireplace as The Guide Trio helps us put the day behind. If you have never been inside Victoria Park neighborhood before, come see the hidden gem that this Mid City pocket is (maybe even enjoy a post show walk around it's famous loop). Vibe will be cozy and a perfect date--or non date outing--before the craziness of Feb 14.
What's the music?
We will be playing original compositions, as well as our arrangements of classic jazz standards, such as Central Park West by John Coltrane, Reflections by Thelonoius Monk, and Segment by Charlie Parker.
Where does this music come from?
The music we play is rooted in classic 1950s and 1960s jazz. It is based on popular song-forms, but adds elements of improvisation from bebop language invented by Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, and further developed by Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, and Charles Mingus. It is essentially "American" music, but has harmonic and rhythmic elements that come from Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, and South America, and ended up in the beautiful musical melting pot we currently find ourselves marinating in.
