Hello! I hope you can join me as I host guitarist Robert Bekkers for a splendid Sunday afternoon guitar performance! I hosted several Groupmuse musicians when I used to live in Somerville, and I've since moved to Fall River (the "South Coast"). If you've never been, please venture down for the afternoon to hear a fabulous program in a historic mill building. We will be enjoying each others' company in a large community room in the building - very high ceilings and great for acoustics!
Here is what you can expect to hear:
Sonata 1 BWV 1001 J.S. Bach
Adagio
Fugue
Siciliana
Presto
Intermission
Variations on a theme by Mozart F. Sor
Rossiniana No. 1 M. Giuliani
Drinks and a few snacks will be provided! Seating will be limited, so if you have a folding chair (even a beach chair!) or a comfy cushion you'd like to bring along, feel free. (We will offer up the real furniture to older folks first). Children are more than welcome as well!
Looking forward to some lovely music to ease those late January blues, and I'm excited to meet some new friends!
Cheers,
Heather
What's the music?
Sonata nr. 1 BWV 1001, J.S. Bach
Adagio
Fuga
Sicilienne
Presto
Intermission
Variations on a theme by Mozart, Fernando Sor
Rossiniana Nr. 1, Mauro Giuliani
Where does this music come from?
Bach's music has always been intended to enlighten the spirit and honor God. Even today his music can inspire us and spark a sense of awe. The music from the 19th century didn't try to inspire God in the listener but rather to make them feel good. The coupling of the two seems appropriate for winter where we have time to think but also have a longing for better days.
